A Letter From Dr. Lew:

Dear Future and Existing Clients,

I am excited to share with you the heart behind Clarke Lew Medical Group. I have the honor of leading a team of talented and passionate doctors, nurses, and other medical practitioners who are all dedicated to your health and wellbeing.

My heart for underserved communities developed while I was still in high school. A close family member of mine experienced homelessness in large part due to a mental health illness, which prevented them from living in any type of home—much less our family home. They felt more comfortable living around our neighborhood streets, and that’s where they spent most of their days and time. That was hard  for me to understand, but it taught me empathy very quickly.   

Through my years in college and medical school, I became more used to their situation, but of course, I remained troubled.. While I was living in San Francisco and still in medical school, I vividly remember on a particularly cold night seeing people living on the streets as I was walking to my apartment. I recall a myriad of feelings during my walk—worry, sadness, and anger at the fact that human beings had to live like this, and those feelings never left me. It also didn’t help that I was hearing from my peers and other individuals that it was someone’s choice to live without their basic needs being met.

Launching a medical practice to serve these vulnerable communities confirmed what I had been feeling, both on a personal and spiritual level, for so many years. By providing medical care and showing empathy to anyone with a medical and/or mental illness, I am able to use my life training to serve the communities that need it most. .
